MISSION BRIEFING

3/31/2018 9pm CST (WE ARE WHEELS UP @ 9)

31/03/2018

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

After repeated operational failures, we've been forced to take up a less than desirable contract. The government of Gunkizli has reputation for being corrupt and the army ineffectual, however, they pay cash in U.S. currency. The region is in the throws of an Islamist lead insurgency, with Boko Haram pledging allegiance to ISIS and the black flag of jihad.

We're being brought in to take back the initiative and turn the tide of the conflict. The reputation of ineptitude preceding the Army, it's best to consider ourselves alone out here. That means full self sufficiency and establishing positive relations with the civilians in the area, who have been ill treated by both sides of this conflict.

While in country do not go off base unless it is enforce. We are outnumbered and out gunned.

Good hunting.

I wouldn't mind running the squad some day... but not this time.  I would rather try it first on a more straight forward mission (go here, kill, come home).  But I'll take a team if needed, that's fine.

I'm Zeus this one,  otherwise I'd jump at it. Besides the worst that can happen is you make some bad calls and get everyone killed. No bigs

I think I'm going to stick with TL this time unless there literally is no one else for squad.  Then MAYBE I'll do it.  MAYBE

In for whatever. Of course I like mortars, but I won't be heartbroken if someone else wants it.

And God forbid we end up needing an MG out the heli window.  Whatever would you do then, @Joe?

Excellent job everyone!  @Wolf2 you did a great job leading Gold Team.  Wanted to make sure you knew that.  And the whole comms thing... it's just a matter of practice.  Most people let go early.  It just makes it really hard to know if you're done talking, if you got shot and died, or what.  Hope you didn't think I was angry or anything.  But you did a fantastic job tonight.

@Stillwater You and Blue Team did an amazing job helping relieve pressure off of Gold Team when they started to take the brunt of the attack.  The ambush on the patrol was wicked.

@Joe Those mortars were spot on.

All in all... probably one of the smoothest successful missions I've seen since joining.  Great job!!

And @Trauma it was a really good OP.  Felt balanced and success never seemed for sure until you and Joe picked us up at the end.  The map was loaded with contacts so there was always this worry that we were about to be over run but the mortar team did a great job of helping reduce some of that pressure.  Thanks for the fun mission!

Came to say pretty much what @sparkstable wrote. Again, good job @Trauma, I like that this mission was directly set up from last week's mission. Good pacing, and the evac under fire at the end was the cherry on the sundae.

Watching the map contacts creep in closer and closer, waiting for permission to open up with the mortar was a bit nerve wracking . @CyphasCayne was reportedly injured by one of my rounds, which should not have happened. If you get hit by my indirect fire, let me know. I try to account for variables, putting them as close as possible, but friendly fire isn't cool on Ops.

Good job everyone. 10/10 would mortar again.

You did get a splash down about 5 feet way from Blue Team with a smoke round as we began to evac from the compound.  All of a sudden we were all like "WTF WAS THAT?!?!!?", screen all fuzzy and sound going out... then saw the smoke billow up and knew what it was.  Didn't hurt or kill anyone, so it's about as good as you can get it I guess, lol!!

That's interesting. Never been on the receiving end of smoke and I never knew it would "rattle" people nearby. Those smoke rounds were purposefully landed there, with the expectation that you were about to break north any moment. I figured a little early wouldn't be catastrophic. Now that I know it creates suppression I will be more careful.

I'm trying to track down the damage radius for mortar rounds. If anyone has any references, i am all ears. (Currently googling)
